Bunker 017-D Empty
PostSubject: Bunker 017-D   Bunker 017-D Icon_minitimeWed Jan 18, 2012 2:34 am

Updates latish on Tuesdays

2035.

The bombs dropped. The world was laid to waste. Decades of nuclear tension culminated into war of missiles, each one targeting the heart of a major city, poisoning everything within 25 miles (40km) of ground zero. But that was just the beginning of the damage; the coming rain would send the poison to rivers, and rivers would take it elsewhere through the land. A nuclear winter would form above.

But below, things would remain relatively unchanged. Especially so in the case of the bunkers; protecting those who were prepared and wealthy enough to afford. Deep beneath the surface great constructions were built, constructions capable of sustaining life.

These massive bunkers were connected, through a central hub some distance away, to seven additional bunkers. At the center of the interconnected bunkers was the largest unit of them all; complete with a security station, a medical center, repairmen, and a library.

The habitable bunkers were designed to comfortable support forty persons. In addition to small private chambers, the bunkers contained a large common room filled with furniture and things to amuse each other with; a gym; a garden that uses UV lights to support growth; a storage room; a food shelter; a kitchen; and a common bathroom complete with toilet stations, showers, a heated pool, and a sauna.

It is inside of one such bunker that we will focus our attention.

Bunker 017-D.

Initially purchased by Mr. and Mrs. James Carnegie, shares of the unit were soon after purchased by friends of the Carnegies; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Beckingham, and Mr. and Mrs. Douglass Kingston. They bring with them a few family members, filling the unit slightly beyond the advertised capacity but well within levels of comfort.

Not everyone is happy. The original agreement was that there would be a total of twenty people under the Carnegie name, and ten from each of the other families. The Beckinghams brought fourteen. By the time it was noticed it was already too late.

In the last five years, resentment has only grown between them. There have been scuffles between the families, but for the most part nothing of major consequence has happened. Tensions, however; continue to rise.

This is where you come in.

The lights overhead do poor impressions of sunlight, but it is something. The ceiling of the hatch is made to look like the sky, but memory fingers the façade for what it is. One day perhaps, memory of the world above will be forgotten and only this will remain; a shadow of glory.

After a breakfast of warm oats, you go to your respective assigned duties.

What is your assigned duty? You get to choose. Gardening, dishes, cooking, cleaning, etc

Seriously, pick something. Feel free to introduce hints of new storylines that you would like to see implemented; resentment towards [insert person’s name here], aspirations, memories; etc. You can even create an NPC character if you want, I’ll build on the characters (possibly changing some shit too).

Have fun. And don’t forget, there is an entire world of people that your character knows or knew that are dead. You’ll never see them again. Lost loves, lost friends, lost enemies, even lost pets.

After breakfast, Dominic puts his journal away in his room and heads towards the common room to begin cleaning. Making sure he doesn't meet the glances of anyone who passes him, he slips his headphones into his ears and raises the volume to an ungodly level.

As he gets to the common room, he notices it's a complete wreck as usual. He begins his daily routine of cleaning and slips into the past. His thoughts meander to the later days of his surface life when he was starting college in what was once Ohio. Memories of freshman year parties, old friends, and even the dorm-adopted cat Mr. Boots cross his mind, leading to the most painful memory of all: Emily.

He is so engrossed in these memories that he barely notices his kid sister standing at the opposite side of the room. He takes out one of the ear buds and quickly snaps, "What, Becca?"

"Um.. I was just wondering if you saw my doll. I can't find her anywhere." Her lip quivers a little as her childish face teems with the innocent sorrow of an 8 year old.

Dominic sighs, and with a sarcastic imitation of concern, replies, "I don't know, kiddo. Why don't you try looking in your room. Or maybe the kitchen?" He puts his ear bud in as a clear indication that he is done with the conversation. The little girl leaves the room with tears in her eyes, and Dominic finishes cleaning the room. "Just another day in prison," he mumbles.

It was another morning in the hole. She enjoyed calling it the hole, because that's what it felt like they were living in. Vanna was in her room, sitting at the vanity caking on make up. You could tell what kind of mood she was in by the amount she wore. A little bit of make up meant she was feeling pretty good, the more she put on the more she was trying to hide. And today was a "let's pile it on to see if I even have a face afterwards" kind of day. It was so piled on that she almost looked like a doll. In fact her face was so flawless, some even called her doll. Well, her sleezy modeling agent did.

Vanna Arianna Beckingham was going places, and making a name for herself before shit hit the fan, and they all had to hide in a hole. She sighed as she set down the make up brush and studied her face in the mirror. Gorgeous. As always. She stood up, and crossed the room to her closet. Her room had been essentially smaller, but she begged and pleaded with Vance for his room. She needed the closet space, and after much deliberation, he gave in. Vanna normally wasn't cruel to her brother, unless she felt he deserved it. Then again, Vance as equally as manipulative as she could be. He was just quieter about it. Their parents knew nothing about their intimate relationship, and she preferred it that way.

As she examined her closet to find appropriate attire for the day, she remembered how much she missed shopping. Everything in her closet had been worn so much, she felt that it was old. Unfortunately, they weren't allowed to leave the hole so she could not go shopping, not that there was a shop left out there... Another sigh escaped her lips as she chose a fifties, pin-up, fitted dress. It fit her curvature perfectly, and had a black belt around her waist to cinch it more. Next was her hair. Long, straight and brown. The Beckinghams, and Kingstons were natural blondes. Vanna dyed her hair, because of when she went to grade school with Ashley they were confused for twin sisters. She and Ash used to be friends at one point, until they reached high school where everything turned into a competition. Ashley had to be head Cheerleader, so instead of using her talent to get there, she bought the team. Ashley had be prom queen, so again instead of playing fair she used her money. Vanna had always been second best, except when it came to modeling. Vanna was a natural, and after dying her brown, she got even more attention, and that didn't sit well with Ashley. Their small feud turned into an all out war, and she still blames Ashley for losing the one boyfriend she felt she was in love with.

After she pulled her hair into a loose ponytail and curled the ends, she added even more red lipstick to help accent her full lips. She made a kissy-face at the mirror before exiting her room. Today was her day to dishes, normally she would have some sort of maid service to do this, but because they all lived together, they would all pitch in. This dress was not meant for dishes, but today she was feeling like a stinking pile of cow dung. As she walked down corridors, she passed through the common room where the kid Dominic was. He was Ashley's cousin, and she vaguely remembered him. But he seemed like a nice kid at times. He was too busy cleaning the common room to notice she was there, plus, his music was blaring so loud she wondered if he had eardrums to begin with. She sneered at the thought, her black pumps clicking against the linoleum floor. Once she reached the kitchen, she pulled on the old gloves and got straight to it. If she wasted any more time putting it off, she wouldn't get it done.

Vanna sighed as she worked. She missed cell phones. With all the explosions, poisons, toxins, and nuclear activity cell phones were pretty much useless. She still kept her's for nostalgia. As she worked on the pile of dirty dishes in the sink, she wished that something good would finally happen. As she finished scrubbing the dishes, she placed them carefully in the dishwasher, loaded it with soap, and started it up. It took her all about twenty minutes to finish, and in that time one of the repairmen had stopped to chat. She flirted relentlessly, not really caring that the man was in his mid-thirties and married. Again, it was one of those days, and Vance was nowhere to be found for some... relief.

As the repairman left, his name was Joseph, she leaned against the sink a moment. Still thinking about how much she really missed being out there. She needed something to do now. There was still the rest of the day to.. Well, something. Vanna frowned, and folded her arms as she left the kitchen to find herself in the common room once more. She walked past the common room to the library, and picked out book. The library had a few small couches, she flopped onto one, kicked up her spike heels and dove into the dark depths of a Dean Koontz novel.

Tyler wakes up refreshed. His brain reboots and he remembers his situation and has to bite back the tears and puke of hopelessness one more morning. He is no longer refreshed.

Tyler manages to force himself out of bed and brush his teeth. Hes going to skip his shower today. Hes going to skip his morning masturbation today as well. he halfway brushes his hair then pops a few pimples then gets dressed in a plain black T shirt and dark blue jeans.

Tyler walks out of his room to his daily gardening job skipping the warm oats. On his way to the kitchen Tyler makes sure to not look at the ceiling. The way its painted is like a sick joke of the open sky he so much misses, every time he looks at it he has to hold back his tears and he gets a frog in his throat. maybe suicide isn't such a bad deal. How would he do it though? All the drugs are locked up in case of emergency and he has yet too see a gun in this well lit, well stocked, completely safe hell hole.

Tyler's macabre thoughts are interrupted when he reaches the garden and has to start picking beans.

Buck wakes up in his room. He kicks the covers off and walks to the shower. After, he straightens up then walks to his workstation. He checks the cameras. He gets the coffee machine going. He manages to get the terrible coffee down his throat. He checks the cameras again.
He hoped this wasn't all he was going to do for the rest of his life. He wondered if he would ever recover. Probably not. He goes back to his room to eat. His warm oats didn't help his hunger. Were they even supposed to?
He wondered how Ash was taking this. It's rough knowing your the last people alive. He wondered how HE was taking this. He decided to visit her after his shift. He had big brother issues.
Buck had done almost every job. He had chosen a sort of job cycle. A new job every week. He was free on Friday and the weekend. His favorite job was cooking.
He remembered cooking ramen noodles for Ashley. They were her favorite. He had to cook because his dad and step-mom were always out late. Until he was 10 he didn't understand where. His dad stopped drinking when he broke Buck's middle finger. You can guess how that happened. Buck was taking care of Ashley until he was 16 years old.
And now that Beckingham girl was here to dampen her spirits even more. If they messed with Ashley anymore than they already did then he would have to pick they're veins out of his teeth with a toothpick. He looked down to see his hands clenched. He looked into his palms to see blood from were his fingernails went. He would have to clean that up.

Aaron woke up a little earlier than usual so he could finish his book before breakfast. He read for about thirty minutes in perfect solitude, then when he finished he got up and ate some warm oats before everyone else got up. After washing his bowl so who ever washed dishes didn't have to he walked to to the broom closet and grabbed a mop and bucket. Walking into the bathroom he turned on the water and went to grab the soap but dropped it. He bent down to grab it and remembered the time he dropped the soap in his elementary schools bathroom when he bent down to grab it all the other kids in the bathroom laughed and called him gay. Aaron never understood the whole "dropping soap thing" Sure he understood the danger of it in prison, but they were not in prison or naked so how does dropping hand soap mean your gay? Aaron would never know the answer to that question sadly.
Aaron's train of thought was broken when the sink overflowed with tap water. Fuck more mess he thought to himself as he stood up and filled the bucket with soapy water. When he finished his chore he walked back to his room and sat on his bed. Life was hard before the bombs and at first when they entered the shelter he thought that this life was better. That thought didn't stay with him very much longer. Now it was the same thing day after day he woke up before everyone, ate breakfast, did his chore, finally he went back to his room to be alone and read.
That was until about a month ago when he got interested in the mechanics of this huge dungeon. He had never explored a lot of the shelter before he picked up his new hobby, but now there was nothing he wanted to do more than learn everything this shelter had to offer and then some. Not knowing what cool, but useless thing he could find to tinker with he grabbed a flathead screwdriver and left his sanctuary in search.

Joshua rose from bed with the normal creaks and groans emitting from his unwilling body. That was one of the worse things about being old, how your body doesn't stay as young as your mind. Although, Joshua knew that another one of the worse things was the lack of respect. Those damn kids never treated him with respect, and he knows that they've whispered why they've bothered to rescue a man on "death's door" when they had kids to feed. He doesn't care how old he is, Joshua is not old enough to die.

After he chokes down his breakfast of oats - oh how he wished he could sit down in a diner again - Joshua makes his way to the door leading to the hatch that will take you topside, and sits in his chair positioned in front of the door. Luckily, he managed to convince the powers that be that he was too old and slow to undertake an important task, so now he gets to sit and read all day. As he cracks open a book on World War II - which looks remarkably similar to the one that went missing from Aaron's room - , he hears a scuffling at the foot of the hall. After raising his eyes from the book, he spots Mr. Carnegie (OOC: Can I just make up a name for this guy or do I have to adress him as Mr. Carnegie from now on?) lurking in the distance.

"What do you want, kiddo?" Joshua asks venemously. "Getting to work." Mr. Carnegie replies, "You do know what that is, right? You haven't done it in so long." "Well unless your work involves going topside, which I doubt, you'd best be moving on." Joshua says with a threatening wave of his cane. He lets out a grunt of satisfaction as Mr. Carnegie moves on, and gets back to his book. Damn disrespectful kids...

PostSubject: Re: Bunker 017-D   Bunker 017-D Icon_minitimeTue Jan 24, 2012 8:37 pm

Vance Anton Beckingham had gotten up early, about the same time as that kid Aaron, the baby of the Carnegie family and resident tinkerer, to complete his morning workout in the bunker’s gym. His body was a temple and he did everything to keep it perfect, save what abuse Vanna convinced him to do to it, like the tattoo on his left bicep, the occasional drinking and other… naughtier things.

After warming up, the twenty-year-old spent a solid hour running, doing crunches and weightlifting before hitting the sauna to relax. Alone, he found himself tempted by the thought of indulging in a good ol’ post-workout jerk session. He imagined the curvy, fit naked figure of his sister and the faces and noises she made when the two of them made love and was soon as hard as a rock. Alas, Vanna had forbidden that he pleasure himself without her permission or presence, so he instead opted for a very cold shower. He'd spotted Buck Kingston when he reached the communal bathroom and was thankful he'd managed to lose his erection lest the meathead get the wrong idea.

Afterwards, he changed into a fresh pair of clothes and, since it was his day to do laundry, started rounding up the bunker’s dirty things from hampers that sat outside the rooms. Not everyone had put theirs out like they were supposed to. It was their loss since they’d now have to take care of their own laundry; it was everyone else’s because they probably wouldn’t. Some of the other kids especially were unmindful of their hygiene and its effects on the community.

Stinky bastards, Vance thought, grimacing. He took everything to the laundry room, not unlike a Laundromat from before the bombs, filling up the various washing machines with peoples’ unmentionables and setting everything to rinse. In an hour or so, he’d move it all to the dryers.

He’d never done any of this five years ago; that’d been the help’s job. But now they were in what Vanna liked to call “the Hole” and he was doing the help along with everyone else. He wasn’t too crazy about it. Perhaps he was spoiled, but menial labor was just so fucking demeaning, not to mention mundane. Where the hell were those household robots they had talked about nearly a hundred years ago? But with the way things were topside, he supposed they wouldn’t be on the market any time soon.

Once done for the time being, he tracked Vanna down since, after all, what else would he do? He found her reading from an old mystery writer from the turn of the century, utterly enthralled in what she was doing. Playfully, he grabbed the book out of her hands.

“Playing the bookworm, are we?” he purred. When she looked up at him, he could see she was having one of her ridiculous, self-pitying ‘ugly’ days. He frowned a bit, deciding to ease up on her and tossed the book gently back into her lap before sitting down on the floor in front of her.

“You should’ve gotten up with me, Vanna. Exercise is a strong anti-depressant..." he paused and grinned up at her mischievously, "Plus, we could’ve gone into the sauna together and I wouldn’t have blue balls right now.” Another pause, then “Oh, and that clown mask of yours would’ve melted off.” He batted his eyes in the same way she would do with him when she wanted something in an attempt to get a smile out of her.

Vanna was so enthralled in her book, that she didn't even hear when Vance entered the room. As soon as the book was lifted from her hands, she gasped and was about to smack the person who'd done it, when she looked up and saw him. His smell was intoxicating, whatever he had done earlier was amazing. She always loved the soap he used, he never needed cologne. "Where else am I to find solace in the hole?" she murmured back as he tossed the book back into her lap. He had lost her page... She frowned a bit as he sat on the floor beside her.

"If you wanted me up and exercising.. You know where my room is." she said flatly, she really wasn't in the mood to be ridiculed about her self-pitying days. She felt like shit as it was, she didn't need her one and only savior to make fun of her for it as well. The mention of the blue balls, and clown mask melting finally got a smile out of her and she shoved his shoulders playfully. "Again, you know where I sleep." she winks at him as she swings her legs around to sit up, crosses them and drapes them over one of his chiseled shoulders. Her black spike heels gently dangling in his lap.

"Today seems as if it was going to be another boring day, doesn't it?" she said, tilting her head downward at him. She pouted her lips, she wanted Vance to kiss her without prompting. No one was around, and the ones that were, were occupied doing some mundane chore or another. Vanna brushed her fingers through Vance's hair and smiled, always styled to her liking. It was thick, and in this messy I just rolled out of bed look. If they weren't siblings and their romance frowned upon, she would've married him already and made it official. No one else would ever know her like Vance did. And she would never trust anyone like she did Vance. Her fingers went from his hair to his face, her lips still slightly pouted, as she waited for her kiss.

Bunker 017-D Empty
PostSubject: Re: Bunker 017-D   Bunker 017-D Icon_minitimeFri Jan 27, 2012 2:55 am

Today was the weekly deep clean and Dominic made certain that he was cleaning the area as thruroughly as possible. He lifted each couch and chair cushion individually and pushed the powerless sweeper along. He also had to dust and clean under everything. All things considered, it was a pain in the ass.

As he was disinfecting the underside of one of the end tables his hand brushed against what felt like a string. Pulling on the string caused a key to fall to the heated stone floor.

Tyler picks bean pods and places them in a large wicker basket. He finds himself choking on tears again and inwardly scolds himself for still being so upset. It’s been five years and everyone else seems to manage getting through the day without tears…

As he picked at the beans, the garden supervisor approaches him. Her name is June and she’s one of the few people in the bunker that is kind to him. She wears a sympathetic smile. “You doing alright, Ty?” she asks. “We’re all struggling through this, but if we want to survive we need to work together. Your job is a very important one and we need you to keep yourself together, okay?”

Footsteps sounded from the hall that leads to the library and soon Sharon Kingston, the matriarch of the Kingston family; walked in. She’d always had a love of book and it was her charge in the bunker to be surrounded by them. She was the librarian and no one left the library without checking the books out with her. She kept track of everything in a thick spiral bound notebook.

“Vanna,” she says when she sees them, the sister leaning down on her brother. The two were very close, far closer than Sharon and her siblings had ever been; but then she hadn’t been a twin. “Have you finished Slaughterhouse Five? You may not take out the book you’re reading now until you return it.”

As Aaron is leaving his private quarters he is met by a Frank Anglar; a cousin of his mothers. Frank is the head repairman for the unit; responsible for minor repairs and partially in charge of custodial operations. Major repairs required a call to the central hub where they would send a team in to help.

“If you’re not headed anywhere special,” Frank says; “I’d like to talk to you about coming to work for me as my apprentice. I’ve noticed you’ve been tinkering around and I could use someone on my team that actually has an interest.”

As the old man sat reading he heard a set of approaching footsteps. He looks up to see that it’s James Carnegie returning. Being the man responsible for purchasing the bunker in the first place, James has considerable power. His assigned job is self-appointed, he assigns jobs and is the highest form of authority within their bunker.

“Mr. Gleeford,” he says with a clearly-annoyed undertone. “When you were assigned sock duty in the laundry room it was because it was the least labor-intensive task in the bunkers. You claimed your eyesight was poor and you had trouble pairing matches. So I reassigned you to washing vegetables in the kitchen. You said your arthritis was acting up and the cold air in the kitchen agitated it.”

Carnegie takes a deep breath. “So I asked you what you thought you could do to help out down here and you said you were too old to do anything.” He lets out a frustrated laugh to break some of the tension. “Remember that? You ended up choosing to sweep the floor.”

“Josh, I still haven’t seen you sweep the floor. You’re lounging around doing nothing every time I see you. So I am going to make this perfectly clear. You will start working to help the rest of us alive. We cannot afford dead weight. Even the children have chores.”

“The next time I see you I expect a sweeper to be in your hands and running.”

[OOC: the sweepers are wireless and lightweight, Joshua likely has the one he was assigned in his private quarters.]

Buck thinks thoughts while thinking. His thoughts come from his mind and he thinks about them. When his thoughts are thought, he thinks other things; thinking thoughts while he thinks.

[OOC: I will assume that paragraph-separation-less you made for Buck was intended to just be him chilling out in his private quarters? Please get your lazy butt to work soon. Remember, you can’t work in security. Winky-face.]

END OF POST: Please pay attention to how you write your posts. Other people have to read this. Going forward, if I can't make out what you wrote, I will make up what you wrote. So double check yourselves.

"Yea I'm fine." Tyler said brashly. He was thankful that June was always nice to him but hated how she coddled him. Most of the time he wished she would leave him alone just like everyone else. Tyler didn't really like anyone in the bunker besides his brother Aaron. He enjoyed the time they spent together aimlessly wondering around the bunker. " So what are you up to today?" Tyler asked June.

"Oh you know picking bean's. Same as always." She says with a smile. "So is your depression getting better?"

"Yea... shit ton's." Tyler says dripping spite. Why wouldn't she just go? She was the only one that seemed to know how depressed he was besides his brother. The only reason she even knew was the time Tyler broke down 2 years ago crying. she had asked what was wrong and he had told her. At the time it was a relief to have someone actually listen to him but now he ultimately regretted it. Normally he was good at hiding his emotions mainly by mentally berating himself for being such a pussy whenever it happened but June had a way of making him open up that he didn't like.

Vanna looked up as Sharon walked into the room, luckily she had retracted before Vance could kiss her. She tilted her head as the woman spoke, and then pointed to the spot on the shelf where she had taken Slaughterhouse Five. "It's been returned ma'am, safe and sound. It was a good read, but not one of my favorites." she shrugged blankly and smiled politely, hoping the woman would walk away so she could be alone with her twin brother.

The woman gave Tyler a gentle smile and told him that if he needed to talk to someone she would be there for him. Before the bombs went off, June had been a psychologist; a skill she thought she’d get more use out of in the bunkers.

She left him there, working at the garden. One thing about life after the bombs was that you were always busy. It was easy for some to throw themselves into the work that needed done, easier than thinking about the past anyway.

[OOC: parts of the following dialogue were played with myxymyxxxmymmyxymxy via private message]

Buck walked up the stairs to the middle floor of the private chambers. He followed a series of halls to his sisters room. As he neared the door and prepared to knock he heard the soft sounds of her quietly crying inside.

Ashley had still been in highschool when the bombs went off and over the last five years she periodically awoke from dreams that haunted her. Some days she could remember bits and pieces; fire, destruction, and dead bodies. Most times though she remembered nothing. She was barely eighteen years old now.

He pushed open his sisters’ door and walked in to find her sitting up in bed crying into her hands. “Ash?” he said. “Are you okay? What’s wrong?”

“I had another dream,” she said.

Her dreams left her badly shaken, but this was the first time he’d seen it affect her so bad. He walked over to sit beside her on her bed and took her in his arm; stroking at her long blond hair and murmuring comforting sounds. “What was it this time?” he asked.

“It was another bomb,” she told him, sniffling. “But this one was different. The people… there were people trapped and dying. I knew the people,” she said. “Buck,” her tone was a whisper; “the people live down here with us.” She began sobbing again.

Sharon frowned at the twins. Something about them wasn’t right, but she couldn’t quite figure out what it was. “Those books are supposed to be checked in and out with me, young lady;” she told Vanna. “I have to be able to keep track of where they are. Make sure you check that one you’re reading out with me before you leave.”

And with that she turned and marched as fast as her short legs would carry her deeper into the library to where her desk sat; leaving the siblings some momentary peace and quiet.

Frank lead Aaron down a long flight of stairs into the bottom most floor of the bunker. There were a series of halls down there, each shut off from the rest of the floor by a series of heavy doors. Frank grunted a little as he pulled open one of them, revealing a corridor filled with pipes of all sizes that criss-crossed everywhere.

“Watch your head,” Frank told him as he moved forward, ducking under a pipe. Aaron followed, letting the door close behind him. He follows the older man to a large green metal unit with gauges and valves all over it.

“This here pretty much controls all the water in the compound,” he points to various gauges to explain their meaning, instructs Aaron on how to adjust them, and warns him to be sparing with their hot water ‘cause we don’t want to run out’.

Back up in Ashley’s room, Buck holds her in her arms as she sobs softly into them. “There was an explosion,” she says. “And water. That’s where it started.”

“It was just a dream,” Bucky said to comfort her.

But his words were proven false when a loud BOOM sounded from somewhere deep in the bunker. The ground shook a bit, though not enough to cause any damage in the personal quarters and common room. Except for the power that is, the lights go out and everything is completely, absolutely dark.

Elsewhere, however; the explosion was more strongly felt. In the library, books fell from shelves and the shelving units themselves toppled over. In the gym weights fell from their racks, the kitchen was a clatter with knives and dinnerware and pots and pans tumbling to the ground. But perhaps the most severe impact from the explosion happens below in the maintenance section.

The explosion comes from the next room over from where Frank and Aaron are; where the generators are located. The room shook violently enough to knock both men from their feet. A few of the pipes burst and water is spraying from various sources through the room.

“My leg,” Frank cries. “Aaron, I’m stuck. Shit, I’m stuck.” He is sitting on the ground with a heavy pipe crushing one of his legs, puncturing part of it. “Go get help.”

In the library there are cries for help as well. Somewhere int he toppled labyrinth of shelves Sharon, the matriarch of the Kingstons and the librarian for the bunker, was trapped under the weight of several shelving units.

Buck feels the ground shake, and instantly almost shoves Ashley out of the room. He bursts out of the room, not knowing where he can go, but thats not what matters, Ashley is what matters. He jerks his head both ways, wondering what to do. He sees his little sister staring at him, probably knowing he has no idea what to do and where to go. He grabs her arm, apparently a little to hard because he could hear his sisters squeal. He bolts down the hallway in the direction that the crowd is pushing him, feeling the warmness of the people that got pushed to the floor and couldn't get up.

All Aaron hears is a loud bang that rattles his mind. He is also thrown off his feet landing on the ground he flashes back to when the bombs dropped, even down in the vault he had felt and heard them but this bang was louder and he wasn't dead so it couldn't be one of those bombs but it was still scary. Aaron jumps up fast and looks around frighted seeing busted pipes spew water all around him. Then Frank yells for his help and Aaron looks down at him, his leg has been crushed by a broken pipe. "I think I can get it" Aaron says loudly over the noise of the water crashing down.
Aaron grabs the pipe and he and Frank try and lift it off of him, but Aaron just isn't strong enough. "Go get help Aaron!" Frank screams at him. Aaron looks around disoriented because most of the pipes are broken and it all looks different. "Which way do I go Frank?" Aaron screams back at him as the water rises. Hot and Cold mix together making the water feel warm on Aaron's ankles. Frank screams that he should go right and Aaron does. Aaron slashes along the hallway and trips over a broken pipe, and falls into the water hitting his head on another submerged pipe. "SHIT!" he gurgles still under water. Aaron jumps up and races for the exit. Entering the floor above he yells for help.

Ashley Kingston squealed when Buck gripped her wrist and yanked her down the hallway. It didn't help that she wore a bracelet when she slept, and now it was biting into her skin. She looked around frantically at all of the toppled people and objects. Scared out of her mind would be one way to describe how she was feeling right now. "Buck, where are we going?" she shouted ahead of her. She continued stumbling behind him in her pajamas, injuring her feet on anything she happened to step on or bump into. They were in a bunker, part of which something was wrong with. What area would be safe at all?

As she was being scolded by Sharon, she sighed trying to seem innocent, but Vanna could not help the bite in her tone. "I haven't even left the library yet, so I assume that rule only applies to people who would like to take a book back to their room or any other part of this hell hole, correct?" she raised a brow as Sharon failed to have a witty reply and went to her desk. Vanna would've muttered good riddance, but instead she looked back at Vance and was about to tell him something when the whole room started trembling. Things shook so hard, that books began falling off the shelves, a loud BOOM could be heard throughout the hole and she tumbled into Vance's lap as the place was falling apart.

Before she could panic, cries could be heard from inside the library. Vanna cursed aloud, and looked to Vance for help. The ground was still shaking as she stood, or that could be her legs? Vanna kicked off her spike heels, and decided to traverse through the rubble to try to find Sharon. This proves to be a difficult task as the books and shelves had fallen over and were everywhere. She could still hear Mrs. Kingston screaming in the background, Vanna may have hated the family but she was not about to let the woman die over some stupid, childish, grudge.

She continues to make her way through the books and shelves, ripping her favorite dress in the process. She heard Sharon scream again, and called out to her. "Don't worry Mrs. Kingston! I'll get you out... As soon as I can find you..." she grumbled the last part to herself. And continued climbing through the book and book shelves.

Tyler hears the BOOM and flinches. The lights begin to flicker and eventually go out.
"What the fuck? June what was that?" "I have no idea." "What do we do?" "I don't know." Junes voice was obviously shaking. "Follow me." Tyler says as he grabs Junes hand and walks towards the door. Having spent a large amount of time in the in door farm he finds it easily and opens the door. He opens it and peeks his head out. He can faintly hear people screaming for help. "Come on. Grab my shirt and follow me." Tyler says.
He walks into the dark corridor keeping one hand on the wall and another in front of him.

Vance tensed up after Mrs. Kingston had almost walked in on a furtive kiss between him and his sister, but the older woman seemed not to have noticed. He stood himself up while Vanna instead used her lips to smart off and soon the Kingston matriarch-cum-librarian was gone in a huff.

“Well, that was a close call,” he whispered, leaning down over his feminine half. She was about to reply when they both heard a sudden BOOM. The ground beneath Vance’s feet shook and he fell back to the floor, along with several books and shelves about him. Then came Vanna, right into his lap.

“Oof! Jesus, would you wa—” he started reflexively before the lights erratically flickered and then died. “Oh, shit. Here, be careful,” he said as he just as reflexively started helping his sister back onto her feet.

A moment later, Vance heard a cry for help. It was Mrs. Kingston, muffled by what could only be a bookshelf that she had the misfortune of being trapped under. He felt Vanna begin to lead him toward the source of the woman’s voice before letting go of him to crawl over the fallen shelves. He followed after, trying to keep a sense of where they both were.

PostSubject: Re: Bunker 017-D   Bunker 017-D Icon_minitimeWed Feb 15, 2012 4:03 am

The backup generator kicked on, offering a dim but adequate lighting.

After clumsily splashing his way through the labyrinth of piping, Aaron finally reaches the door. He reaches for the handle, calling for help even as he moves to push the door open; but the door does not move. When he presses the handle down and pushes again he gets nothing but a large blinking red light above the door.

"This door has been sealed off to protect the rest of the bunker," a feminine robotic voice says in an even tone.

The water is nearly up to his ankles.

Ashley and Buck soon found themselves in the common room with many of the others. Everyone appears to be in a state of panic and confusion. The same questions can be seen on everyone's face; what is happening, who is missing, and are we going to be okay?

Those in the common room gradually drift and group together according to family. It is natural to be near your kin in times of catastrophe, but the unease between the Kingston's and the Beckingham's already had everyone on edge before this.

James Carnegie managed to keep his wits and do something useful; he went around and counted heads. At the conclusion of his count he found that eleven were missing; Tyler Carnegie (the heir apparent), June Thomas (Mrs. Beckingham's sister), Josh Gleeford (Mrs. Kingston's father), Dominic Kingston, Sharon Kingston (the matriarch of the Kingston family), Frank Angler, Douglas Fairchild, Hank Kingston, Aaron Carnegie, and the Beckingham twins.

"We need to get to these people," Mr. Carnegie says, shouting above the group and bringing their shouts and cries to a halt. "We need to find them and bring them back. Does anyone know where any of these people should be?"

Soon Tyler and June come running into the common area, short of breath and, like everyone else, a bit shaken.

Stepping on and over scattered books, the Beckingham twins made their way through the library. The emergency lights, though dim and distant; guided their way.

"Over here!" Mrs. Kingston cried as they drew nearer. It was Vance who spotted her first, a foot sticking out from beneath a mess of a book pile and the weight of two shelves. "Help me." Other than she being conscious, there was no way to tell what sort of condition Mrs. Kingston was in.

Back in the common room, the security access doors hissed open and to reveal a small group of bunker staff; six security personnel, a small medical team of three, and four service and repairmen. Curtis and Donny were among the security personnel. They were the Carnegie bunker's primary security contacts. They were faces known to them. The other men and women were complete unknowns, save for one of the medics.

Donny was a short pot bellied man with pale skin and a thick mustache; he had thick biceps and a deep voice. Curtis was the tall one, standing over six feet in height and thick of muscle. Rumor had it he was a professional football player before the bombs hit. He was good natured, but a bit dim intellectually.

"What happened?" Curtis asked. No one could answer the question.

"Have you done a head count?" Donny asked; Mr. Carnegie answered that he had. "Good," Donny said; "The security team will help you find and rescue them. If we need the medics we'll radio to them. If we need maintenance, and I have a feeling we will, we'll radio them."

"Okay," James Carnegie says.

"Listen," Curtis told him, laying a hand on his shoulder; "We're going to find them and we're going to figure out what the hell happened down here. Whatever it was shook the shit out of us in the hall, but didn't impact anywhere except for your bunker. Whatever it is, we'll figure it out. Now, tell us where we need to go to help."

If you are in the Common Room, you can either remain where you are or help find some of the missing people. If you have a guess where some of them may be (with the exception of Vance and Vanna, and Aaron and Frank) take the lead. Doug and Hank are names of NPC's who have not been introduced to the story yet... So feel free to make up where they are. Those of you not in the Common Room need to do what you have to do. Figure some shit out. If you're stuck or need help, message me.

Buck sits next to Ashley, expressionless. He hears James Carnegie addressing the names of the lost people, sometimes flinching when he hears a name. After a long debate inside his mind, he decides to go search for the probably deceased. He does not want to think about what he might find. Buck sits up "I think dad was in his room when the explosion happened. I am going to look for him there." without getting conformation from the others he runs out into the corridor. Buck quickly approaches his fathers room then opens the door.

As Vance helps her over some books, when they both rush toward Mrs. Kingston, all they see is her feet. Vanna gasps, but the lighting and book shelf do not provide help for the situation. She looked to Vance for a clue as what to do, but his face was as blank as her mind. Vanna takes a few tentative steps forward and calls to Mrs. Kingston. "Sharon... Is anything broken? Can you move?" she waited for a response, then turned to Vance. "We should get this book shelf off of her.." she stated the obvious, when she was nervous Vanna tends to make stupid comments.

Deven took a deep breath, rubbed his hands together, and began walking through the crowded common room.

"Alright guys," he said, "I'm going to head into the lower sections of the bunker. Who wants to come along?"

Deven went through, making eye contact and patting shoulders to try to convince anyone he could find. He made sure to try and get an even mixture of people from the three families, though. Now was not the time for clan drama.

"It'll be OK," he assured them. "We just need to work together and move quickly."

Once he had a good number of people with him, Deven lead them out of the common room and toward the nearest descending stairs.

Ashely called after Buck, yelling for him to wait for her, but he didn't seem to hear her. She couldn't recall where he said he was going or if he said he was going anywhere at all, but now she felt quite alone. "I can't believe..." she blinked and crossed her arms in a sort of second-hand reaction. "He just left..." But of course he did. he was a grown man, and she was a grown woman. She could fend for herself and didn't need to be led by the hand by her older brother. Shew could do anything she set her mind to. Still, watching him bustle down the hall alone was disconcerting. She looked around the common room where she was and brushed the dull, blonde hair from her eyes, noticing that she was the only one still in her pajamas, seeing as she had only recently awoken.
When Deven entered the room and began talking animatedly about mounting a rescue mission, she perked her ears up to listen. Standing around and waiting didn't quite strike her fancy, so when he rounded the room and came to touch her shoulder and speak confidently about a smooth operation, she didn't hesitate to join in. This might not amount to be a good decision on her part, but she was all for moving around the bunker. And when he left to descend a flight of stairs, she followed.
