Game starts here

But first you have to sign up. No major character details needed, name and approximate features as well as occupation/skills. (lFor example: Sven, a smallish man with blonde hair and thin beard, skilled farmer -or- Yon, a big man with jet black hair/beard, blacksmith).

I ran this one on another site a few years ago and it was a ton of fun. Here's a taste of it, once you're approved go ahead and start playing.

You are on one of three Viking ships, each with roughly fifty settlers, on your way to a new land. You are the second wave of settlers being sent, the first group of 100 men and women are to have already established a small village a year ago.

Four nights into the voyage a heavy storm hit that took down one of the ships, only a few men survived; your ship taking on three men and a woman from the wreckage, the other ship taking on ten.

After a full week at sea land can be seen. One of your brethren blows a loud horn to signal your approach, the village returns the call with a horn of their own. Your ships reach land shortly before nightfall, a great fire and feast awaiting you on land. You are each welcomed in turn by the surprisingly few men and women of the village.

I assume by 'Viking' you mean 'generic seafaring badasses with horns on their hats' and no actual knowledge of RL Viking culture is required?

Either way I'm all over this come Monday, I just have to survive the weekend first. Since I'm sort of getting a Dwarf Fortress vibe from all this I'll probably be a farmer--never strike the earth without one unless you enjoy watching everyone starve the first winter.

(Seriously though I have no idea what direction you're going with, but if you ever get desperate for new members here maybe you should do a straight up Dwarf Fortress RP...or allow someone else to run one if you've never played it and have no idea what I'm talking about. I am 100% certain I could drop a link on the forum then and get some bites.

And yeah, more "badass seamen" (lol). But that's more becuase I don't want anyone turned off at the idea of having to research in order to play than anything else.

It's this awesome perpetually in development (and heavily moddable) citybuilder/roguelike/madlibs generator/sandbox game. You buy skills and a wagonload of supplies for a handful of dwarves and then build a self-sufficient fortress get raped by forgotten beasts in the bowels of the earth in a vast randomly generated world with it's own unique history and wars and monsters.

Only the hardcore need apply, because mandatory to play are a good tileset to get past the ASCII graphics. And a healthy dose of masochism to get past the vertical learning curve created by the horrific UI and whatever new feature is currently unbalanced or bugged while the kinks get worked out. Once you past all that though the game has an insane amount of detail and freedom--as in, literally, the guy who makes it is very likely insane (or at least autistic). Basically it's a more of a toybox full of psychotic dwarves and lava then an actual game and is unforgivably broken and terrible in a variety of ways, but even while fully aware of this you find yourself helplessly addicted and donating money to the dev in the hopes he'll add more detailed beekeeping or the ability to craft solid gold dildos adorned with hanging rings of schist and menacing with spikes of limestone.

Appearance: Middle-aged. Eyes of pale blue. Thick, blond hair of medium length and a goatee; he has grown white at the temples and a few locks above his brow and most of the hair on his chin. Crow’s feet, forehead wrinkles and frown/smile lines etch a look of perpetual melancholy on his face, showing clearly that he’s lived. Vithi is wiry and a bit hairier than someone as fair as he might usually be. His hands are callused and a little scarred from years of hard work.

That's not just half-naked guy, it's the actor who played Thor, so he's entirely appropriate for the setting. (also it was getting late and I was too lazy/tired to write a detailed description)
